Super D
Super D was born in Poughkeepsie New York and is of
Jamaican descent. He went to school in Montego Bay, Jamaica and grew up listening
to James Brown, Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, Black Uhuru, and Burning Spear. Spiritually,
he is influenced by the teachings of the Honorable Marcus Garvey and the Most
Honorable Elijah Muhammad. Super D started 'Toasting' at age 17 in New York
City. He began developing his style which is a fusion of Hip Hop and Reggae,
hard hip hop beats with Reggae/Dancehall style vocals.
In 2002 Super D moved to Tampa. He met a Reggae band called 'Positivity', and
started doing sets with them at a club called the 'Rare Olive', located on 7th
ave in Ybor City. In 2003 Rahim Samad saw a Super D performance and was promptly
blown away. After the set, Rahim met Super D and began speaking regularly. Super
D soon met up with Rahim and recorded his EP 'Wa Da Da Ding', which became an
underground hit in Tampa. Super D soon went home to Jamaica where he stayed
for 3 years until he resurfaced in Tampa in 2006. During this time, he laid
vocals for Rahim's song, 'Ring of Fire', which soon became another underground
hit in Tampa. Super D is currently recording songs for his debut album which
is due in Winter '06.
